Computer Specialist

Position Summary
The Computer Specialist plays a critical role in supporting the technological needs of Crowder College. This position ensures the optimal operation of campus-wide computer systems, and related technologies. The purpose is to provide expert technical support, maintenance, and troubleshooting services to faculty, staff, and students, thereby enabling a seamless academic and administrative experience. The Computer Specialist will contribute to the institution's mission by fostering a reliable and secure IT environment that supports learning, teaching, and operational excellence.
 
Essential Job Duties

  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and support for hardware, software, and network issues across campus, ensuring minimal downtime and disruption to academic activities.
  • Perform routine and advanced maintenance on institutional computers, including updates, and security checks.
  • Manage and implement the deployment and integration of various multimedia and AV products, including LCD projectors, document cameras, DVD and VHS players, diverse projection surfaces, high-definition televisions, audio systems, infrastructure cabling, equipment security solutions, mounting systems, and switching and multiplexing devices.
  • Collaborate with staff responsible for the installation and maintenance of the university’s communication infrastructure, including the copper plant, and ensure the effective operation of telecommunications, data, and wireless networks.
  • Engage in IT-related projects such as system upgrades and software deployments.
  • Provide employees with training and support to use technological tools.
  • Work closely with other IS staff, faculty, and administration to assess technology needs, recommend solutions, and implement new systems and software.
  • Setup and maintain institutional end-user equipment utilizing automation tools including Microsoft Intune, ensuring that all systems comply with institutional policies, legal regulations, and security best practices. Assist with data security initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
 
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Associates degree from a regionally accredited college or university in MIS, CIS, Educational Technology or related field is required.
  • Ability to analyze information needs and troubleshoot technical problems.
  • Ability to concentrate on assigned tasks and pay close attention to details.
  • Experience in educational technology such as software programs and presentation technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with computer and information users.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement responsibilities effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with other professionals, staff, students, and the public.
  • Technical knowledge in the fields of computer science, computer education, and the broad range of technologies used in higher education environments.
  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of technology.
  • Working knowledge of computer technology.
  • Knowledge of presentation equipment including installation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Working knowledge of current Microsoft Office Suite. (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook)

Working Environment: 
  • Generally indoors in a normal office environment with minimal exposure to temperature changes, noise, dust or chemicals.
  • Normal college working hours but adjustment of hours involving evening and/or weekend work will be required from time to time.
