Description
The Second Annual Native American Cultural Symposium will be held across Bentonville June 14-17th, 2018. This year's theme is: Reunification through Reinvention: Creative Visions of Contemporary Native America. MONAH is honored to have the opportunity to bring together an array of Native Elders and Youth for a weekend of performances, presentations, and workshops. MONAH seeks to renew the connection between the historical traditions presented in its permanent collection and modern Native peoples. Visitors will be invited to understand and respect cultural context by promoting Native art, performance, writing, fashion, cuisine, and film. Most of the weekend will be hosted at the Museum of Native American History, with parts at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and The Record event venue downtown Bentonville. Symposium highlights include: Friday, June 15 - 3 PM: Xiuhtezcatl Martinez at The Record venue. (This event is especially recommended for youth to attend.) Friday, June 15 - 7 PM: Symposium Panel with keynote speaker Suzan Shown Harjo. Saturday, June 16: Meet and Greet with featured presenters Brooke Simpson, Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, Joseph Marshall III, and Suzan Shown Harjo. Sunday, June 17: Workshops with Joseph Marshall III and Sam Scinta. Sunday, June 17 - 6 PM: Prairie to Table Dinner. (Tickets for this dinner will benefit the scholarship fund.)
