Description
Our mission is to help individuals and area businesses gain a competitive edge both locally and globally through education, networking and community involvement.
Speakers: Heather Marie Wells
Since 2013 Heather Marie has served as an expert on the advisory board for the New Media Consortium?s Horizon Report for Museums. The New Media Consortium publishes reports each year geared to specific sectors of education. Each report covers key trends and significant challenges in each sector.
In her presentation, Wells will examine emerging technologies that are expected to have a significant impact in museums and education, as identified through the Horizon Reports, and discuss how looking ahead and increasing awareness of these trends will help businesses and organizations relate to their future employees, partners, and customers.
Bio: Heather Marie Wells is a forward-thinking museum professional with fifteen years of experience in the field. As Digital Media Specialist for Crystal Bridges, she manages their mobile applications, in-gallery interactives, audio tours, and iTunes U, as well as their fleet of 400 iPods. Before joining the staff at Crystal Bridges, she was the collections assistant and technology coordinator at Shiloh Museum of Ozark History, where she launched technology initiatives such as podcasting, iTunes U, the museum's Twitter feed and Facebook page, and developed the museum?s first publically-curated exhibit. Previously, she served as a collections assistant and education assistant at the University of Arkansas Museum.
Wells is a passionate believer in the ability of technology to educate, excite, and engage people by forming personal connections between museums and the public.
Her current projects include researching museums? need to expand the definition of visitor to include the virtual visitor and e-publications as an emerging medium for museums. In July her first book contribution will be published in Technology and Digital Initiatives from the series Innovative Approaches for Museums.
Heather Marie?s work has been recognized through numerous awards from museum associations at the state, regional, and national levels, the most recent being the Gold MUSE award for Audio Tours and Podcasting (2014). She has presented numerous times at the Arkansas Museums Association (AMA), the Southeastern Museums Conference (SEMC), and the American Alliance of Museums (AAM). In 2008 she was named the SEMC Emerging Professional of the Year, and the Arkansas Museums Association?s Staff Person of the Year in 2012.
Wells earned her M.A. in Anthropology ? Museum Studies at the University of Arkansas ? Fayetteville.
